Eating Out Gluten Free on Anglesey

Not sure where you eat out gluten free on Anglesey? There are a few fantastic places around both on the island and just over the other side of the Menai. These are just some of the most popular places for coeliacs to visit while there. The majority I have visited myself over the years but some have just been recommended so often by so many I had to include them.

Eating Out Gluten Free on Anglesey
I visit Anglesey fairly frequently and must admit, it isn't the easiest place to eat out at when you are gluten free. That being said though it's not the worst I've been but it takes some digging around!

Over the years there are plenty of places I have visited and had fantastic gluten free options, some of them are on this list. Others on this list come highly recommended by other people. For more helping eating gluten free on Anglesey I highly recommend the Anglesey Coeliacs Facebook group and also check the where to eat guide part of my website as that keeps updating depending places people send through. There are currently a fair few places listed for Anglesey.

There are 10 places I would suggest trying - there are quite a few more to try but these 10 are particularly stand out for me. I have also mentioned a few below that aren't on the island but if you maybe want a drive out or are visiting those areas they are worth a visit! If you want fish and chips then you are in luck on Anglesey as at least 4 chip shops do gluten free on the island!

Anglesey

Coastal Cafe - Moelfre
One of my personal favourites, John who owns the chip shop, is gluten free himself and he has a separate kitchen for gluten free. He offers a wide range of meals too from fish and chips to scampi, sausages, cottage pie and various different specials.

Black Lion - Holyhead
I personally haven't visited as I didn't know about it until a few days ago but it has come very highly recommended from a few people and on Anglesey Coeliacs Facebook Groups - they are always tweaking the menu and adding more and more gluten free options which includes fish and chips, steaks and plenty of desserts plus lots more. The staff are very accommodating and aware when it comes to allergies and Coeliac so definitely one to pay a visit.

Sea Shanty - Trearddur Bay
A lovely place to grab a sandwich or a main meal, I haven't eaten here in a while but they have catered to gluten free for the last 3 or 4 years and have always been great when we have been. They have a large variety on offer too and have a great little ice cream parlour attached who are pretty good too.

Golden Fry - Benllech
Absolutely raved about chip shop at Benllech, fish and chips are gluten free as standard and they also do a variety of other options. I believe they have also recently started doing gluten free pies. Definitely worth a visit, somewhere every Coeliac raves about on the island.

Catch 22 - Valley
Another favourite of mine, they do some of the best meals on the island and what's more 95% of the menu is gluten free from curry to fish and chips to roast dinners they do all sorts. Everything is cooked fresh to order so can be adapted though most things are gluten free as standard anyway. It is usually a case of them telling you what can't be gluten free rather than pointing out what is gluten free.

Caff'r Parc - Holyhead
Little cafe on the breakwater county park, on first glance they don't look like they offer much but they do generally have multiple gluten free cakes even if they don't label them - you need to ask. Can get a few lunch options from here too.

Caffi Banc - Camaes
Not one I have personally been too but lots of people have told me this little cafe is great for gluten free and also dairy free. They are always posting a range of gluten free cakes and savoury options on their facebook and I believe there is usually more choice on a Friday for gluten free (must be when they do their gluten free baking!)

Lizzy Lees - Llangefni
I only heard about this one recently but a little gem again, great gluten free menu with lots of kids options too, it is run with an NHS trained dietician so they have good understanding of Coeliac.

Riverside Arts - Malltraeth
Beautiful little hidden away gem, great for watching the steam trains go past if they are doing specials! When it comes to gluten free they always have a variety of gluten free quiches and pies and also sweets cake and tart options, all make on site. Gluten free is all cooked on one day each week after the kitchen in thoroughly wiped down.

Oceans Edge - Trearddur Bay
Lots of gluten free options on their menu and always been great for Coeliac. They do a lot of different pizzas amongst other options, before they became Oceans Edge they were the Black Seal and even back then they were great for gluten free.

That is just 10 top ones that stand out to me but there are lots of other places that offer gluten free. Just to name a few others - Beaus Cafe and Pier House in Beaumaris, Harbourfront and Chippy Chippy in Holyhead, Owain Glyndwr in Llanddona, Surf Cafe in Rhosneigr, Red Squirrel Cafe in Newborough and Port Chippy in Amlwch - and still that doesn't cover them all.

Off the island

If you fancy crossing the bridge there are other places on the other side of the Menai. Just to mention a few that aren't too far away...

Barnacles Chip Shop - Llandudno
The biggest gluten free menu ever from fish and chips to pies, sides and desserts.

Black Cat Cafe - Caernafon
Do sandwiches, cakes and afternoon teas.

Eden Tea Rooms - Llandudno
Great range of sandwiches, soups, salads and lots of cakes.

Johnny Dough's - Llandudno and Conwy
Large selection of gluten free pizzas.

Archway Fish and Chips - Conwy
Gluten free fish and chips.

Clio Lounge - Bangor
One of The Lounges chains who have a great gluten free menu.

Do you know anywhere else on Anglesey or around North Wales? Why not suggest them to be added to the where to eat guide for other Coeliacs to find.
